Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring: A Rejuvenating Experience
Therapeutic effects on skin diseases and inflammation on muscles and joints, relaxing effects, and improved strength. These are only a few examples of the nature's healing powers found in hot springs and has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. Luckily for us Filipinos, we need not travel far to enjoy the nature's healing wonders. Our very own Philippines is bestowed with such great wonders!
Now bathe in a rejuvenating flow of spring water filled with dissolved minerals in one of the country's hot springs - The Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring in Maco, Compostela Valley.
Home to Mt. Leonard Kniazeff, a volcano identified by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) as one of the 22 active volcanoes in the Pilippines, the area is bestowed with such great gifts - Lake Leonard, the Leonard range, cold springs, geothermal plants, and the famous Mainit Hot springs.
Locals living within the vicinity of the area visit the place very often to bathe while others stay a little longer for a more relaxing time with self and nature. The place has also been a famous destination for travelers from different places across the country.
The resort has cottages for rent, a sari-sari store, and a videoke machine. They also have grilling area for those who find pleasure in preparing food in the midst of such a beautiful place as the Mainit Hot Springs. For an entrance fee of 5 pesos per head, you will already have access to this strikingly beautiful works of nature. You can enjoy taking pictures, exploring the area, and bathing.
Getting to Mainit Hot Spring is easier via Mawab than through downtown Maco. Take a bus that would pass through Mawab and tell the driver to drop you off at the entry to the provincial road that leads to Brgy. Mainit. Once in the provincial road, wait for a jeepney that's heading to the Mainint Sulfuric Hot Springs or charter a Haba-Habal (a single motorcyle). Do not hesitate asking the locals - they are helpful and friendly.
Don't forget to bring water and an insect repelling lotion. You may opt to bring tent because the resort sometimes, especially during weekends, could run out of available cottages. Don't forget to bring jackets because the place could get real cold as this is located in a mountainous area. If you are planning of staying overnight, you might want to bring flashlights or portable florescent or LED lights because the area is experiencing power outages every so often. Also, ensure that your gadgets are fully charged and if you have a battery pack, it will be wise always bring one. Most importantly, ensure cell phones are working and with enough airtime balance to place a call in case of an emergency. Enjoy your visit!
