Bern's: The Tastiest Halo-Halo in Town

Filipino's have always been very creative with our desserts and refreshments during the Summer season. With the temperature and humidity rising, refreshments of all kinds are also pouring in. You will definitely see them just about almost everywhere - from people who are selling them along the streets to most restaurants, "carenderias", and even "sari-sari" stores. There are quite few of these refreshments and desserts but my favorite is "halo-halo".

Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert which is a mixture of ground/crushed ice, milk, and a variety of fruits like jack fruit and banana. This is also served with cooked beans, purple yam, and sometimes topped with ice cream.

I have had the chance to try Bern's version of this Filipino dessert and I must say, the mixture is awesome! The fruits, leche flan, the milk, and the ice cream blended together to come up with that real Filipino tasting "halo-halo". The ice cream, which is usually served as an add-on to the ice - fruit - milk mixture, is of our local version called "sorbetes". It's sweet, delicious, and that hint of coconut milk complements well with the rest of the ingredients to come up with the best "halo-halo" in town.

This is definitely the tastiest I have tried so far, and the good thing is, it is as less expensive as it is delectable. Their "halo-halo" is only 45 pesos which is way less expensive compared to other known "halo-halo" I have tried before. The only thing is I had to travel at least an hour or so to get to taste this yummy Filipino dessert. Bern's Bakeshop is located in the town of Maco, about an hour ride from the Davao City.

Those who are heading down south may drop by at Bern's Bakeshop and at least have a taste of this tempting dessert. Those who are in Tagum, may visit their newest branch at the 2nd level of Robinsons Place. Now how's that for a flavorful way to quench your thirst and beat the heat of summer?
