Talicud Island Adventure Part 1: Our Visit to Baga Cave

Talicud Island, in the Island Garden City of Samal has always been famous for it's beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters. People from Davao City and neighboring towns and as far as from North Cotabato province visit to spend their weekend in this breath-taking paradise. I have been to this place quite a few times already but my visit last February 25, 2017 opened up an opportunity to explore this island more. Apparently, amazingly beautiful beaches are not all there is to it in this wonderful paradise.

I and my friends Paul John, Jack, and Jay.

Isla Reta, initially, was our only destination. It was unexpected that just less than eight hours before we leave the Island back to Davao City, one of the Habal-Habal drivers in Isla Reta asked if we would like to go for a tour around the island. Well, I have always been hungry for things like this and I thought, I might not have the chance to visit this place again anytime soon so I convinced my companions and we decided to take the tour.

The tour was supposed to take us to seven destinations around the island but due to time constraint, we had to cut it short. The places we have visited were pretty much interesting but Baga Cave stood out among them. The places we visited were:

  1. Baga Cave

  2. Giant Balete Tree

  3. Long Beach

  4. Friendship Road

  5. The Mangrove Sanctuary

  6. Isla Reta Beach Resort which is not part of the tour but I will include it anyway.

Our first stop is Baga Cave, a long and relatively deep cave in the Island of Talicud. Apparently, if tourists would explore the entirety of this natural wonder, it would take them close to six hours to get to the farthest part of the cave and back. The cave has been a popular destination to tourists who visit the island.

Getting to site is easy as you can just hire a Habal-Habal driver who can take you there and back to Isla Reta. Although some parts of the road are unpaved and rough, it is pretty much accessible. The driver usually charges around 300 pesos to take you to 7 destinations in the Island but you can always negotiate. Should you decide to take the 7 destination tour, remember to bring a bottle of drinking water because the tour could take at least three hours to including your travel time back to Isla Reta. You may also bring something to eat like biscuits or bread, just in case you get hungry anytime time during the tour. I and my friends did just this and pretty much, we did get hungry so the our biscuits were a life saver.

Just a bit of a reminder if you plan to visit the cave. Put your rubber shoes on because the trail is slippery due to the water dripping from the ceiling of the cave.Wear something comfortable but protective because the rocks in the cave are quite rough and could cut your skin. Don't forget to bring a bottler of drinking water and if you have a heart condition (not love life related..lol), you might want to ask you doctor about the risk of exploring caves.

I will be sharing more of our adventure in my next post. In the mean time, please don't forget to like our Facebook Page and visit our Youtube Channel. We are also in Instragram and Twitter .
